This workshop creates the largest shimenawa, a sacred rope (13.6 m wide weighing 5.2 t) for the Kaguraden of Izumo Taisha Grand Shrine, the most famous place in Shimane prefecture, and shimenawa for branches of Izumo Taisha Grand Shrine as well as for other shrines all over Japan. Visitors can tour the workshops of the shimenawa craftworkers and see rare exhibits. Workshop staff also offer a craft class where visitors can make a small shimenawa using special straw (30-minute class, 980 yen).
